About the position
The Ironworker I position involves constructing iron and steel structures according to specifications. The role requires a skilled individual with extensive experience in ironworking, capable of reading blueprints, fabricating equipment, and ensuring safety during construction activities. The position demands physical endurance and the ability to work at significant heights, along with a strong understanding of various tools and safety practices.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work, including locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
- Identify all tools required for tasks and safety risks, implementing precautions to eliminate those risks.
- Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
- Hoist equipment and tools into location via bull rigging or crane.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and/or levels.
- Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
- Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting.
- Pull, push, or pry iron/steel equipment into approximate positions for bolting into place.
- Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment.
Requirements
- Must have 4+ years experience as an Iron-worker Helper or Structural Iron-worker.
- Possess all Knowledge Skills and Abilities for the position, including leadership, drawing interpretation, rigging, connection, fabrication, and equipment knowledge.
- Ability to read and understand IFC drawings and craft specifications.
- Knowledge of safe rigging practices and connection procedures.
- Basic knowledge of welding and cutting techniques.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with specialty tools such as torque wrenches and mag drills.
- Familiarity with JLG's man baskets and cranes.
