About The Position

Austin Industrial is a merit shop, employee-owned company and has been a provider of construction, maintenance, plant services, turnaround and specialty services to the oil, gas and chemical, energy (power and ethanol), and manufacturing industries for more than 100 years. The Ironworker Industrial Journeyman performs duties to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure framework. This is accomplished by performing the essential duties and responsibilities outlined in the job description.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in the Industrial Ironworker craft.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Fluent in English for safety reasons.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Depending on the job site, certain certificates or licenses may be required.
  • NCCER and Advanced Rigging preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprints and selects required material for construction.
  • Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
  • Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable or rope.
  • Guides structure being lifted into proper position and aligns rivet holes with corresponding holes.
  • Drives drift pins through rivet holes.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level.
  • Bolts aligned structures to keep them in position until permanently riveted, bolted or welded into place.
