Join the American Red Cross as an IRL Technician in the Blood Bank Technology Program, a paid four-month program designed to prepare participants for the blood banking board certification exam. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain essential knowledge and hands-on experience in various aspects of blood banking, including immunology, genetics, blood donor collection, and quality control testing. Upon successful completion of the program, individuals will transition into a full-time IRL Technologist role.

  • Participate in the Blood Bank Technology Program, gaining hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Reinforce concepts and techniques from didactic materials through practical assessments.
  • Learn about basic laboratory knowledge, immunology, genetics, and blood donor collection.
  • Understand infectious disease testing, component manufacturing, storage, and distribution.
  • Conduct quality control testing and pretransfusion testing.
  • Administer blood and manage adverse events of transfusion.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) with 24 semester hours of academic science including 6 semester hours of biological sciences and 6 semester hours of chemical sciences.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Proficiency in using a wide variety of lab or medical equipment.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and applicable software for sustained periods.
  • Blood Bank or laboratory experience.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) associate's degree/certification.
