About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician, Trainee at Iowa River Landing Pharmacy is responsible for performing activities associated with drug distribution and control for outpatient and clinic patient dispensing under the supervision of a pharmacist. This role involves preparing sterile products, maintaining cleanroom standards, providing customer service, and managing prescription processing and inventory maintenance.

Requirements

  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • All pharmacy technicians must be certified within one year of employment.
  • Any combination of two years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences OR satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to perform ratio/proportion equations.
  • Experience in a retail pharmacy setting.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience with inventory maintenance activities.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience working in healthcare with one-on-one patient interaction.
  • Prefer National Career Readiness Certificate at Silver Level.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient specific and batch sterile products including hazardous medications under pharmacist supervision.
  • Perform daily cleanroom maintenance activities including cleaning and decontamination of hoods according to SOP.
  • Provide patient/customer service at Triage and communicate with the general public and healthcare personnel.
  • Receive and screen prescriptions for completeness and check for prescription readiness.
  • Conduct interviews with patients to collect and record profile information including demographics and medication allergies.
  • Determine waiting/pick-up time and triage prescriptions to the appropriate team.
  • Answer telephone lines and triage phone calls per established policies and procedures.
  • Enter prescriptions and patient profile information into the computer system.
  • Read and interpret prescriptions, calculating doses and quantities as needed.
  • Fill/refill prescriptions, ensuring accuracy in labeling and packaging.
  • Prepare prescriptions for mailing and shipping according to established policies.
  • Perform inventory maintenance activities including drug inventories and audits.
  • Conduct audits related to narcotics and controlled substances, resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Assist in the on-the-job training of new technicians and coordinate activities with team members.
