About The Position

The Commercial Credit Underwriter position at First National Bank is a critical role within the Credit business unit, primarily responsible for conducting thorough financial analyses of both current and prospective commercial loan customers. This involves spreading financial statements, analyzing industry and economic conditions, and completing cash flow analyses to assess the creditworthiness of borrowers. The underwriter will prepare comprehensive underwriting presentations and perform credit investigations to make informed recommendations that protect the bank from potential losses, particularly focusing on larger relationships and complex transactions. The incumbent is expected to deliver the highest quality of service to every customer, ensuring that all analyses are completed accurately and in a timely manner. In this role, the underwriter will analyze the creditworthiness of borrowers by identifying key credit issues and preparing detailed written analyses based on available information and established policies. This includes the completion of the FOCUS underwriting document and all its components. The underwriter will also prepare cash flow and global cash flow analyses for borrowers, utilizing Baker Hill software to spread various types of financial statements. Researching available data, including internet sources and subscription-based utilities, is essential to summarize information regarding the current and projected status of industries and borrowers, as well as general economic trends that influence lending decisions. The position requires the underwriter to develop a personal program for maintaining knowledge in banking matters, compliance, credit analysis, and personal skills. Effective leadership on complex transactions, such as syndications and multi-level capital structures, is expected, along with excellent communication skills to articulate opinions clearly and concisely. The underwriter will independently research various industries and summarize findings to aid senior leaders in making informed lending decisions. Additionally, the role includes performing other related duties and projects as assigned, with an emphasis on risk management and compliance with regulatory laws and company procedures.
