About The Position

Instructors are in a dynamic role where the core responsibility is to guide students in integration and empowerment through language acquisition. Following the CASAS standards, both productive and receptive language skills are taught alongside cultural, life, and digital literacy skills. Instructors must be able to scaffold and differentiate for a wide variety of adult learners and adjust to the needs of each unique class. Twenty-first century learning is brought to students using technology in the classroom whether online or in person. Instructors’ welcome students throughout the scheduled term and are able to assess needs and help guide students toward their learning goals. This position consists of around 7 hours per week during teaching term and is dependent upon class schedule. It includes three teaching terms: Spring (January-May), Summer (May-August), and Fall (August-December), To be considered for this position, the employee must reside within the United States of America during the teaching terms. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or similar field or the equivalent in work experience.
  • Those with degrees, certifications and experience obtained outside of the U.S., that may not meet the U.S. education system requirements, are encouraged to apply.
  • Basic knowledge of Google Suite (instruction and data collection) and Zoom (instruction).

Nice To Haves

  • TESOL and/or ABE certification
  • 2+ years of teaching experience
  • Proficient in Google Suite including Google Classroom
  • Experience teaching on Zoom

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and prepare classes, including developing detailed lesson plans.
  • Develop learning materials that support leveled learning objectives and planned activities.
  • Instruct groups of up to 28 students using a variety of active and engaging teaching strategies/learning activities and student assessment methods.
  • Manage in-person or online classrooms effectively creating an environment of respect and inclusion with and between teachers, classroom volunteers and students.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in meeting IRCNoCo’s needs and students’ changing requirements as conditions may require over time.
  • Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly data collection including but not limited to: attendance tracking and student growth.
  • Participation in weekly and monthly staff meetings.
  • Regularly participate in IRC instructor's professional and collaborative learning community regardless of instructional hours hired to teach.
