About The Position

At entry level, the Apprentice performs semi-skilled field work requiring the application of acquired skills and knowledge in the installation, field maintenance and repair of general wastewater line collection systems and construction procedures; skill in the use of wastewater related equipment; and knowledge of departmental functions, policies, and procedures. Work of this class is characterized by participation in and successful completion of the Apprenticeship Training Program designed to improve the employee's knowledge of wastewater line maintenance and construction procedures and to further develop skills in the use of hand and power tools and other specialized equipment. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the employee becomes certified at the journeyman pipe layer level and may become considered for promotion to the Wastewater Utilities Maintenance Technician position. Applicants who have already completed an equivalent program of classroom study and work experience, hold certification as a journeyman pipe layer, and have demonstrated journeyman skills and abilities, will be considered for hire directly into the more skilled Technician level.
