The City of Independence is looking for a Facility Maintenance Supervisor for the Power and Light Department. The Facility Maintenance Supervisor performs a variety of first-line supervisory duties related to the planning and coordinating day-to-day operations of employees engaged in facility and equipment maintenance activities. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Works under the general supervision of the assigned manager. Provides close to general supervisor to facilities field personnel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Performs Some or all of the following) Supervisory Functions: Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with City policies, procedures and applicable laws including: training in job skills; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems; conducts inspections of work to evaluate progress of programs and projects. Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with policy and procedures and acceptable laws including training in job skills, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supervises the maintenance of the inventory of all supplies required to perform the duties of the position; provides information, advice, feedback, or assistance to others within the department to refine work outputs or resolve problems; supervises the maintenance of equipment to assure that it is in good working order; performs minor repairs; plans, organizes, assigns, reviews, and controls work production and activities, to include procedures, allocation of resources, problem resolution, and training of employees; supervises or performs installation of new equipment, inspections and required maintenance; prepares status reports on assigned activities. Analyzes personnel organization and distribution and project requirements to implement the most efficient and economical utilization of available personnel; analyzes equipment requirements and makes recommendations for purchase or replacement of equipment. Attends and participates in staff meetings, completes required forms and paperwork, and prepares work program and reports work progress periodically. Assists in the development, implementation, supervision, coordination, and monitoring of maintenance activities in order to keep the facility functioning in an efficient and productive manner. Power: Supervises the fuel handling activities for power plant facilities; provides general supervision for all work involving the electricians and technicians engaged in the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment at the electric power generating facilities. Diagnoses trouble in the plant and at our combustion turbine equipment and controls; ensures appropriate responses to emergency situations 24/7. Budget & Fiscal Planning: Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets for the facilities annually; monitors and administers approved budget; Assists in developing and recommending the budget for the unit; assists in the preparation of cost estimates for assigned projects. Day to Day Operations: Supervises the maintenance of required records and reports; maintains records and logs for appropriate reporting of history, cost benefits analysis, material utilization etc. Prepares and submits requisitions for parts and materials needed for electrical systems, mechanical machinery, combustion turbines and all related controls. Performs related duties as assigned.
