About The Position

The IP Nurse is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, coordinating, and directing the infection control program in accordance with current regulations and guidelines. This role ensures compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations regarding infection control, and involves monitoring practices, making recommendations, and providing education to staff and residents.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
  • Experience in infection control in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of CDC, OSHA, and local regulations regarding infection control.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting and educating staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct the infection control program.
  • Ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations regarding infection control.
  • Develop and maintain infection control precautions and aseptic techniques.
  • Interpret infection control policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Maintain a reference library of infection control materials for staff.
  • Make written and oral reports to the Administrator regarding the infection control program.
  • Assist departments in evaluating tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Monitor infection control practices to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Make rounds to nursing units for case findings and review of sanitation procedures.
  • Visit isolated residents to ensure adherence to isolation precautions.
  • Ensure availability of laboratory support for microbiological and serological services.
  • Review and analyze infectious disease laboratory reports and consult on care plans.
  • Assist in developing guidelines for decontamination and sterilization activities.
  • Perform periodic testing of sterilization equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor the shelf life of sterilized medical items and reprocess as necessary.
  • Ensure proper disposal of infective and contaminated materials.
  • Prepare monthly summaries of resident/personnel infections and corrective actions taken.
