About The Position

Our client, a leading AmLaw 50 national law firm, is seeking a patent agent with 3+ years of patent counseling experience, including preparation and prosecution experience to join the firm's pre-eminent, national Intellectual Property Department's Chemical, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. This position is available in various locations including Boston, Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, New York, San Diego, Silicon Valley, or Washington DC. The firm is open to considering alternate office locations based on business needs and the candidate's experience. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in the biological sciences, such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics, and must possess a USPTO registration number. Experience in drafting and prosecuting both domestic and international patent applications is required, along with a preference for experience in drafting patent opinions, particularly in the field of biotechnology or related technologies. Strong legal writing and research abilities, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, are essential for success in this role. A proactive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative work ethic are also highly valued. Top academic credentials and prior law firm experience are necessary to thrive in this position. Key responsibilities include drafting and prosecuting both domestic and international patent applications, preparing patent opinions specifically in biotechnology or similar technology, and collaborating with inventors and attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications in emerging technology areas. The patent agent will draft comprehensive patent applications and negotiate the scope of patent rights with the Patent Office, as well as prepare reports and support documentation for patent portfolio management. This role requires collaboration with a team of experienced attorneys and paralegals in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
