We are seeking a strategic and business-minded Intellectual Property Counsel who can bridge innovation and protection across Re:Build's diverse engineering and manufacturing ecosystem. The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge of patent strategy, prosecution, and portfolio management-coupled with the skill to transform intricate technologies into a competitive edge. You are as comfortable advising engineers and product leaders on invention capture as you are counseling executives on market positioning, risk, and IP monetization. You thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments, balancing rigor with creativity to shape frameworks that enable responsible innovation in areas like AI, automation, and advanced manufacturing. With a combination of technical fluency, commercial insight, and practical judgment, you'll help safeguard Re:Build's most valuable assets-its ideas, technologies, and people-while empowering teams to innovate boldly and confidently.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from accredited law school and active state bar membership in good standing
  • USPTO registration and minimum 8+ years of IP experience with significant in-house counsel experience preferred
  • Technical undergraduate degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field strongly preferred
  • Proven track record in patent prosecution, IP strategy development, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience with engineering and manufacturing industry IP issues, export controls, and government contracting preferred
  • Strong business acumen with ability to align IP strategy with commercial objectives and risk tolerance
  • Excellent communication skills for interfacing with technical teams, executives, and external counsel
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities where AI can streamline processes, improve decision-making, and drive business outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement detailed intellectual property strategies in alignment with Re:Build's manufacturing and innovation goals
  • Build and manage global patent portfolio to support business expansion and competitive positioning
  • Provide strategic IP guidance to senior leadership on product development, market entry, and business transactions
  • Lead brainstorming sessions with R&D and engineering teams to uncover and seize high-value innovations
  • Review and approve patent applications, office action responses, and prosecution strategies to ensure quality and alignment with business goals
  • Develop frameworks to support and accelerate responsible innovation
  • Provide specialized legal advice on complex product issues, balancing compliance with strategic goals, including risk balancing issues and non-standard product launches
  • Advise on a wide range of legal issues relating to new products including AI governance and emerging technologies (including AI, ML, GenAI, IoT, and automation technologies), privacy and data security, and open-source software
  • Partner closely with engineering, R&D, product development, and manufacturing teams to integrate IP considerations into innovation processes
  • Provide IP training and education to employees across all business units to ensure compliance and improve IP value
  • Work closely with commercial teams to address intellectual property components of partnerships, joint ventures, and technology licensing opportunities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements including licensing deals, joint development agreements, and technology transfer contracts
  • Manage IP provisions in manufacturing agreements, supply contracts, and commercial partnerships
  • Handle IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic business transactions
  • Coordinate with outside counsel on IP litigation matters, including patent disputes and enforcement actions
  • Develop and implement IP enforcement strategies to protect Re:Build's proprietary technologies and manufacturing processes
