About The Position

Murray Equipment, Inc. (MEI) & Total Control Systems (TCS) is seeking a skilled and motivated IoT Systems Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role is ideal for an innovative, hands-on engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and industrial automation to build reliable, real-world connected systems. As an IoT Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting embedded and IoT solutions that connect MEI’s mechanical systems, fluid-handling equipment, and control platforms with enterprise and customer software. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to advance MEI’s connected automation technologies while ensuring performance, security, and reliability in demanding industrial environments. Summary: The IoT System Engineer is responsible for developing, integrating, and supporting hardware and embedded systems that connect Murray Equipment’s mechanical systems, fluid-handling equipment, and control platforms with enterprise and customer software systems. This role bridges field hardware - including sensors, meters, flow computers, and PLC-based systems - with proprietary automation platforms such as ICS ControlPro, ICS VisionPro, and TCS HUB. Responsibilities include designing and deploying IoT edge devices, developing firmware, enabling secure and resilient data communication, assisting with system integration, and supporting field implementation. The IoT Systems Engineer plays a critical role in advancing MEI’s connected automation solutions and ensuring reliable operation across industrial environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in embedded hardware and firmware development for industrial or IoT systems.
  • Prior experience with automated engineering tools and embedded development environments.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, industrial sensors, and communication modules.
  • Ability to travel throughout the facility, between offices, and into production or industrial environments as needed.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites for commissioning, troubleshooting, or installation support.
  • Auto Travel: (must have or be able to obtain a valid Driver’s License and meet the MEI Driver Administration Risk Reduction Tactics Program requirements)
  • Air and Car travel: Travel requirements include: Air Travel: Domestic and International (must have or be able to obtain a US Passport)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial communication standards preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, prototype, and deploy IoT hardware solutions including microcontroller-based devices, communication modules, and supporting circuitry.
  • Develops embedded firmware for sensors, registers, and industrial communication interfaces.
  • Integrates IoT hardware with TCS meters, TCS 3000 registers, ICS loadout controls, and MEI/ICS control panels and instrumentation.
  • Implements secure and reliable communication protocols and custom data interfaces.
  • Works with software engineering teams to define APIs, data structures, and communication flows linking field devices with ICS ControlPro, ICS VisionPro, TCS HUB, and customer backend software.
  • Collaborates with control system engineers on PLC, SCADA, and HMI integration requirements.
  • Conducts hardware validation and testing in real-world industrial conditions.
  • Creates and maintains documentation including schematics, test procedures, firmware repositories, BOMs, and compliance documentation.
  • Supports commissioning, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and onsite/remote service of deployed IoT systems.
  • Identifies and resolves hardware and firmware issues such as communication faults, sensor drift, power instability, or memory constraints.
  • Assists with component selection, cost optimization, and supply chain evaluation to support scalable IoT product lines.
  • Contributes to product roadmaps, feature design, and long-term IoT architecture planning.
  • Maintains clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Assists in other areas of operations and performs other related duties as assigned.
