The Ion Technician will be responsible for operating the MDS plant in a safe, sanitary and efficient manner according to established guidelines. MDS is defined as the entire operation of molasses desugarization including shipping and receiving of molasses & all co-products associated with molasses, and operation of the water treatment plant. Principle accountabilities include but are not limited to: Responsible as the “operator/maintainer” and accountable for all aspects in the MDS area. Provides high quality extract to either the factory or extract storage tanks. Coordinates the activities of Ion Helper and Molasses Loader (HLB). Monitors Rosemont or Delta V computer system; makes adjustments through a computer keyboard as needed. Collects samples from the process and completes and documents various lab analyses. Encodes analytical results into the computerized lab information management system. Identifies and corrects mechanical, operational, and electrical problems, requesting help if required, or may perform or direct other maintenance personnel in making repairs. Diagnostic trouble-shooting ability is required. Ensures all equipment is functioning and operated in a safe and efficient manner. Provides documentation of results by compiling information into shift report. Completes all required reports in a timely basis. Ensures M & R parts are available, and orders as necessary. Submits written reports for improvements to correct operational problems. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Performs various lab tests and analysis related to product quality as required. May perform other Ion and Molasses related duties, as well as general housekeeping. Performs other duties as assigned. Works overtime as required.
