About The Position

The Investment Operations Managers in the Office of Investments are responsible for overseeing and executing the operational functions of the office. These functions include, but are not limited to, cash management, reconciliation and accounting functions, assisting with internal and external audit processes, overseeing compliance and legal processes, liaising with other Baylor departments, as well as managers, administrators, custodians, along with managing third party service providers and working with the investment staff to achieve the goals for the investment office. The Investment Operations Manager will co-lead the annual external audit of endowment investments and lead/co-lead special projects related to finance, tax, audit, regulatory reporting, and other related activities. There are multiple such roles required to serve Baylor’s $2.5 billion endowment and each Investment Operations Manager reports to the Business Director. The ideal candidate for this role is a proven, innovative problem solver, a results-oriented self-starter, an excellent communicator who provides regular and effective updates, a team collaborator with a positive attitude, and an organized project manager. Candidate must be able to work effectively within a small team in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to change in a positive, energetic manner. A bachelor's degree and three years of work experience in accounting and financial management for an investment firm, endowment, family office, or similar industry are required. A degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field, and a master's degree is preferred. Additional experience or education will be considered in lieu of one another. Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Engages with investments managers and fund administrators on all fund documents including AMY/KYC policies, and ADVs
  • Assists with daily treasury function activities, execute applicable cash and trade transactions in Nexen, secondary reviewer of daily account statements for appropriateness of activity, accuracy, and recordkeeping, and works closely with the endowment and university treasury teams to achieve goals
  • Acts as a point of contact along with other Investment Operations staff to facilitate information exchange between Legal, Tax, and Audit departments
  • Supports outsourced audit, tax, and regulatory functions, maintenance of internal controls and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Manages custodian services by evaluating, recommending, and implementing changes to services or service providers, and conducts periodic reviews of fees and services offered
  • Works collaboratively in partnership with legal counsel to ensure proper execution of all legal documents associated with Baylor Office of Investments
  • Assumes operational due diligence responsibilities for existing and new fund managers
  • Assists with selling gift stocks and In-Kind distributions
  • Assists with minerals portfolio revenue activity, produce monthly reporting, processes incoming funds, posts transactions to applicable systems; and assist with annual audit and valuation reporting for the minerals portfolio in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Works closely with the endowment team and applicable university leaders to ensure treasury, accounting, audit, and other financial duties are executed properly
  • Develops relationships with service providers, communicating directives and feedback
  • Works closely with the Investment Business Director and General Counsel to manage and oversee various endowment office compliances, including programs for conflicts of interest, insider trading, confidentiality, and regulatory reporting
  • Portfolio-level risk and exposure analysis
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
  • Ability to comply with University policies
