About The Position

The Associate Controller/Investment Manager at Illinois Wesleyan University is responsible for managing the Endowment fund, including investment and farm accounting. This role ensures compliance with university policies and accounting standards, maintains general ledger accounts, prepares financial statements, tax returns, and external reporting documents, and oversees cash management for the university. This is a full-time, on-campus position with generous benefits.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; Accounting, preference for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar designation.
• Three to five years related experience in accounting.
• Knowledge of accounting principles, specifically non-profit fund accounting.

• Experience supervising one or more functions of a Business Office (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Cashier or General Ledger).

Responsibilities

• Oversees general ledger accounts for Endowment Fund, including investments and farms, and prepares journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Prepares work papers for financial statement audits and benefit plan audits, and collaborates with the Controller and outside audit firm.
• Responsible for preparing financial statements, documents for annual reporting, and the financial section of the IPEDS report.
• Handles tax returns and tax reporting, including drafting Form 990 and working with Commerce Bank on CRUT reporting.
• Coordinates and communicates with external constituents, including the outsourced Chief Investment Officer and IWU Farm Managers.
• Advises and coordinates with other departments on proper accounting and supervises the payroll function of the Business Office.
• Serves as backup for initiating and approving wires, ACH payments, and online banking, ensuring adherence to fraud detection protocols.
