About The Position

Investment Duties Conduct research on new investment strategies across both Public and Private Markets Assist Directors, Portfolio Managers, and Analysts in the management of internal strategies Assist Directors, Portfolio Managers, and Analysts with portfolio risk management and performance report preparation Support Directors, Portfolio Managers, and Analysts in asset class research, capital markets research, manager due diligence, and monitoring Ad hoc projects Attend and take notes on conference calls, both virtual and in-person meetings Acquire market insight through publications, subscriptions, and other means – WSJ, Financial Times, economic research providers, or other financial publications Input and audit performance data for Private Market investments Proofread and ensure accuracy of information and data contained in various MERS’ reports and publications Other Duties Audit/read monthly Investment Manager reports and report pertinent information to Investment Officers Prepare investment reports using Bloomberg and custodian bank’s online system Assist with hard copy and electronic filing Available to work 12-20 hours per week (part-time schedule) or 32-40 hours per week (full-time schedule) as determined at time of hire.

Requirements

  • Education: Progress towards or completion of a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, finance, economics, or a related area
  • Must be a junior or senior
  • Knowledge of: Basic financial concepts
  • Asset class characteristics
  • Accounting principles
  • Economics
  • Skill in: Microsoft Office and other business software (Bloomberg)
  • Time and project management
  • Independent research utilizing a variety of resources
  • Organization
  • Presentation/communication (oral and written)
  • Data Analysis
  • Ability to: Be detail-oriented
  • Work within a team and on a self-directed basis
  • Proactively seek out assignments
  • MUST BE ABLE TO COME INTO THE OFFICE 2 DAYS A WEEK located in Lansing, MI. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are REQUIRED.
  • Available to work 12-20 hours per week (part-time schedule) or 32-40 hours per week (full-time schedule) as determined at time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Active participation in at least one school affiliated or professional organization centered on the financial or investment management industry
  • Internship or work experience in an investment capacity is a plus
