Founded in 1898 and headquartered in Chicago, IL, GATX Corporation (NYSE: GATX) is an industry leader with 125+ years of success—success that is powered by our people. We are proud of our high‑performance culture, hard‑working and enthusiastic management team, and beautiful office space in the Willis Tower. At GATX, we hire the best and offer our employees a dynamic, energetic, collaborative environment to enable them to make an impact from day one. Enjoy the perks and benefits of a global company with the close‑knit culture and community of a much smaller one. In the same way we strive to empower our customers to propel the world forward, we are dedicated to providing our people with the tools and resources they need to advance in their careers. The Investment Analysis group performs economic analyses to inform GATX’s investment and divestment decisions globally and provides quantitative and analytical support to other functional areas such as Structured Finance, Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounting, etc. The Investment Analyst (“IA”) provides transaction-related support involving the quantitative evaluation and reporting on specific commercial, operational, financial, and/or strategic business opportunities. The IA performs quantitative economic analyses of proposed domestic and international investments, including single-investor leases, lease syndications, secondary market portfolios, business acquisitions, and other complex structures. As a key member of a deal or project team, the IA participates in many aspects of the deal structure development and closing process in addition to providing the economic analysis. The IA interacts with all levels of the Company including senior and middle management, fleet portfolio managers, deal advocates (VP level and above), and other functional specialists from Accounting, Tax, and Treasury. A number of the transactions analyzed require use of proprietary quantitative models developed at GATX or the creation of new models for novel problems. These models may also incorporate statistical analysis, probability theory, and simulation techniques. Investment Analysis models must incorporate a range of technical factors including corporate tax and accounting requirements, the Company’s investment policies, and underlying asset characteristics. Under the supervision of a senior member of the Investment Analysis team and with the guidance of other Finance Department functions, the IA may conduct international and domestic tax and accounting research to ensure transactions are properly modeled. Given the breadth and size of GATX’s investments, the analyses performed by the IA are an extremely important part of the investment decision process. Therefore, high-quality, error-free results are expected. The IA must be able to work with a minimal amount of supervision, take initiative to research issues, solve problems, and produce accurate work through self-checks.The IA must also be able to communicate assumptions, results, issues, and solutions in a clear and concise manner. The IA may be responsible for multiple active transactions at any one time and must be able to prioritize in order to meet multiple and often conflicting deadlines. From time to time, the IA may also participate in special projects in other areas of the Company.
