About The Position

The Montana Board of Investments (BOI) provides prudent investment management of state and local government funds and supports economic growth across Montana. MBOI manages a range of investment programs and works with financial institutions, state agencies, and local governments to enhance and expand Montana’s economy. The Fixed Income – Investment Analyst provides critical analytical, trading, and operational support to the Board’s investment staff, with a primary focus on internally managed fixed income portfolios. The role focuses on domestic, investment-grade bonds across multiple portfolios, including Core Fixed Income for the Consolidated Asset Pension Pool (CAPP), the Trust Funds Investment Pool (TFIP), the Short-Term Investment Pool (STIP), and the State Fund Investment Portfolio (SFIP). The analyst contributes to security selection, portfolio analytics, and performance monitoring, and collaborates closely with the Director of Fixed Income, Chief Investment Officer, Executive Director, and other senior investment staff. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field.
  • One to three years of experience in asset management, investment management, investment consulting, or other financial fields.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of investment types, their application, use, and markets.
  • This position requires the successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative credit analysis on new and existing fixed income investments and present recommendations to the fixed income team.
  • Execute all aspects of trading and settlement for fixed income securities under the guidance of the Director of Fixed Income.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of capital markets, issuers, and sectors using tools such as Bloomberg, external research services, and other publicly available information.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, risk, and activity in absolute terms and relative to benchmarks, and maintain pool and/or portfolio analytics for internal and external management programs.
  • Create and maintain investment information, reports, and analytics that support monitoring, decision ‑ making, and communication of the investment process.
  • Assist internal accounting staff and the custodial bank with processing investment transactions and achieving reporting standards.
