The investigator position at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Office of Rights, Compliance and Accountability conducts inquiries and investigations to evaluate compliance with University policies, procedures, and programs on discrimination, discriminatory harassment, sexual misconduct, retaliation, employee conduct and ethics. The investigator is part of a team of four workplace investigators examining reports utilizing a trauma-informed approach, acting as a neutral third party throughout all aspects of the workplace investigative process ensuring a well-documented, prompt, and fair handling of the report. This position will work closely with students, faculty and staff, stakeholders, Human Resources, Department of Residence Life, Office of Research Integrity and others throughout campus, as necessary. We are seeking a candidate with exceptional critical thinking and judgment skills, with a proven ability to analyze and apply legal and policy standards to a variety of situations. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-stakes projects, meet deadlines, and maintain detailed records with minimal supervision. Cultural competence and sensitivity are essential, as is the ability to conduct investigations with a trauma-informed approach. Candidates must demonstrate independence and impartiality, exercising sound judgment even in highly emotional or complex scenarios. Strong interpersonal skills are required to work effectively both independently and as part of a busy team. The role demands calm, professional handling of sensitive and confidential matters, and the ability to adapt to a complex organizational environment. Flexibility is crucial, with a willingness to travel and work evenings or weekends as needed. Proficiency in MS Excel and Word is required. The candidate should possess strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, interviewing, and investigative skills. Prior experience in gathering facts and an ability to clearly and effectively present ideas are essential, along with a commitment to managing sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of training, along with at least two years of investigatory experience.
