About The Position

The Investigator position at the Colorado State Public Defender's Office is a full-time, entry-level role focused on supporting criminal defense teams. Investigators are responsible for gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and assisting attorneys in developing defense strategies. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while demonstrating compassion for clients.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social sciences, or a related field.
• Equivalent education, training, or experience may substitute for formal education.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No felony convictions.
• Valid driver's license and access to a working vehicle.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in indigent criminal defense or serving an indigent population.
• Bilingual, Spanish-speaking skills.

Responsibilities

• Locate, interview, and coordinate witnesses for defense cases.
• Obtain documents and other information relevant to cases.
• Serve subpoenas as required.
• Provide insights and recommendations to attorneys on defense strategies.
• Write reports and prepare exhibits for trial.
• Testify at trial when necessary.
• Review discovery and records, including visual evidence and crime scenes.
• Maintain and utilize investigative equipment and software applications.
