About The Position

As an Investigative Support Specialist, you will perform a wide range of non-sworn investigative support duties within specialized areas of the Police Department, including welfare fraud, economic crime, hazardous materials and environmental crimes, bad check crimes, insurance fraud, child abduction, homicide, sexual abuse, spousal or elderly abuse, and criminal and civil process serving. This role is crucial in supporting investigators who conduct complex investigations, and you will be responsible for collecting and documenting information, preparing reports, and maintaining records related to various cases. In this position, you will provide essential support to investigators by interviewing complainants, witnesses, and defendants to gather information and record official statements. You will review case files, extract useful information, and analyze both official and unofficial documents related to assigned cases. Your ability to identify and locate witnesses, victims, and suspects will be vital, as will your skills in explaining police investigation policies and procedures to citizens and witnesses. You will also be responsible for maintaining computerized databases and preparing crime scene diagrams for court presentations. The Investigative Support Specialist must possess a strong knowledge of law enforcement functions, investigative techniques, and the legal framework surrounding police operations. You will need to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders. This role requires a commitment to public service and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
