The New York City Department of Investigation (“DOI”) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country; its mission is to combat municipal corruption. DOI serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, City agencies, and City employees, vendors with City contracts, individuals and entities that receive City funds. DOI is seeking a skilled and motivated Investigative Attorney to support the investigations of the Inspector General overseeing the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), Department of Sanitation (DSNY), Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), Emergency Management (NYCEM), and the Conflicts of Interest Board (COIB). Together, these agencies manage a combined annual budget exceeding $4.5 billion and a workforce of more than 28,000 employees. Each plays a vital and distinct role in maintaining the safety, resilience, and integrity of New York City ranging from emergency response and public safety to essential sanitation services, transportation regulation, disaster preparedness, and ethics enforcement. In this hybrid legal and investigative role, you will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment alongside skilled investigators, auditors, and DOI leadership on criminal, administrative, and policy-based investigations, to support the effort to root out fraud, waste, misconduct, and corruption, and to improve systems and policies to strengthen public trust and safeguard the city’s residents and resources.
