About The Position

This is an Unpaid internship with the Police Department geared at students who have an interest in the field of Criminal Justice. The Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) is seeking motivated and service-minded undergraduate and graduate students to join our Investigative Assistant Internship program. This opportunity allows interns to work alongside detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and gain hands-on experience in investigative processes while engaging with community members and navigating the criminal justice system. Individuals accepted for this assignment will be immersed in a true investigative experience. The intern will work closely with the Detectives throughout the investigative process. They will develop strategies and make recommendations to the Detective, who will involve the intern in all phases of the investigation and treat them as colleagues.

Requirements

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0, Applicants may be asked to provide certified official transcripts
  • 18 years of age or above

  • Enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student for the duration of the internship

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may be given to applicants pursuing an education in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Psychology, Forensic Science, or any Law-Enforcement related programs, as well as one or more of the following:
  • Experience working with law enforcement/government
  • Experience utilizing various computer systems and tools (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Desire to work in law enforcement or similar field

Responsibilities

  • Direct involvement in the investigative process
  • Interviewing victims and witnesses in a variety of cases such as larcenies, harassments, assaults, and more
  • Documenting conversations and any other information received from the investigation in investigative supplemental reports
  • Assisting detectives in the identification of suspects to be prosecuted
  • If requested, assisting detectives with specific case projects related to furthering the investigation
  • Accompanying detectives into the field to a variety of crime scenes
