Primary Function: Personnel in this position provide support to production departments inspecting and/or calibrating castings, wax dies, spreaders, gages, jigs and fixtures used within the investment casting process. There are three levels within this position which are differentiated by education, experience, independence, and responsibility to lead and direct others. Adhere to all SPI and other specifications to maintain an auditable and certifiable system. Tools and Equipment: Computers, NIST traceable standards, CMM, height master, talley surf, vision system, comparator and other measuring and inspection test equipment. Materials: Some different office equipment, normal computer components, metrology machines, and various hand tools can be used at different times. Positions and Levels: Grade 7: Investment Casting Layout Tech C – TO6100 Entry-level position intended for those employees possessing a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years in an inspection role or evidence of related experience and CNC experience a plus. Work will be performed under the guidance and supervision of “A” or “B” level department members. Must have basic skills as follows: •Computer skills oBasic Data Base understanding oHardware general understanding oHard storage general understanding oWorking knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word •Mathematics skills oGeneral Mathematics oIntroduction to Trigonometry oBasic algebra •Drawing and Geometric Dimensional Tolerance (GD&T) oGeneral use and various concepts o Moderate blueprint knowledge oBasic datum system structures •Metrology methods oEstablished and knowledgeable oFull use of hand equipment, indicator use, and micrometer methods •Structured White Light - Alternative avenue for CMM programming requirements: oStructured Light, Capture3D technology: oGeneral knowledge of and understand concept •Shooting, fixture setups •Calibration verification •Software and MSA oUnderstanding of general and baseline concepts oVersed on data entry and conduct accurate inputs for GR&R •Coordinate Measuring Methods oRun and use existing programs o Basic knowledge of quick tooling setup and methods •Calibration oUse of related calibration software and hardware systems oUse and understand tooling data base oAssign or adjust customer tooling as directed oKnowledge of customer audits and in-house audits Grade 8: Investment Casting Layout Tech B-TO6110 Position is intended for those employees possessing a High School diploma or equivalent; meet all the requirements of a Level “C” and a minimum of three years experience at a “C” level or a minimum of 5 years of related experience and demonstrated ability to perform all Duties and Responsibilities with significant independence. Working knowledge of machine shop practices. Employees within this level will work independently with minimal supervision and be expected to provide guidance and direction for “C” level department members. In addition to the Level “C” skills must possess: •Computer skills oAverage to advanced Data Base understanding oAverage to advanced Microsoft Excel and Word oStorage and archiving data, programs, and documents per SPI or as directed oCreation or inputting of picture documentation (Acrobatic, Work, Excel, Paint, etc.) oDiscuss use and drawing creation •Drawing and Geometric Dimensional Tolerance (GD&T) oAverage to advanced use and variety of concepts oModerate to advanced blueprint knowledge oCommon datum setup and drawing specific datum system structures •Metrology methods oEstablished and knowledgeable oFull use of hand equipment, indicator use, and micrometer method oRun and setup surface finish checks •Structured White Light - Alternative avenue for CMM programming requirements: oStructured Light, Capture3D technology: oGeneral knowledge of and understand concept Shooting, fixture setups Calibration inspection and verification Processing and reporting General knowledge of scripting •Software MSA oAbility to conduct studies GR&R and other MSAs oSetup and run CPK studies and reports oAbility to setup and understand coordinate measuring methods on DCC CMM or Manual CMMs oexplain software and system methods to drawing specifications ointermediate programmer oFull grasp hardware and part setups oAbility to write programs independently as intermediate programmer Some knowledge of and use of CAD modeling •Calibration oAdvanced user of calibration systems oCalibration of more difficult gages oNew gage layout and calibration oMethod to standardize new gage calibrations Grade 10: Investment Casting Layout Tech A-TO5120 This position is intended for those employees possessing a minimum of five year’s experience at a “B” level or in excess of 8 years of related experience and demonstrated ability to perform all Duties and Responsibilities with complete independence. Employees within this level will work independently with minimal direction of the department supervisor and be able to lead small teams on major projects as well as provide guidance and direction for both “B” and “C” level department members. In addition, an employee of this level may be required to assume the role of department supervisor during periods of absence or illness. In addition to Level “B” skills, must possess: •Computer skills oAdvanced Data Base understanding oAverage to Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word •Mathematics skills oAbility to calculate and decipher drawing interpretations True position Profiling oReview and digest problems and correlate to related specification results •Metrology oAbility to program and setup surface finish and vision systems oGeneral proficiency on most Layout equipment •Structured White Light and or CMM Skills – moderate to expert - oStructured Light, Capture3D technology is alternative avenue for CMM programming requirements oIntermediate General knowledge of and understand concept: Shooting, fixture setups Calibration verification Processing and reporting General knowledge of scripting Ability to create a project with alignment per print •CMM skills are moderate to expert oProgram with a CAD model oProgram by using script to drawing ballooned detail with alignment verification oProgram production parts and program proofing oSPC use and integration within CMM programs oProgram actions: saving, updating, archiving, and follow active Software Controls Direction of Others: Able to lead small teams on major projects as well as provide guidance and direction for both “B” and “C” level department members. Working Procedure: The following are the usual major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor: •Studies supplied specifications such as casting drawings, sketches, models/castings, and/or other information from Engineering to determine methodology necessary to satisfy any dimensional inspection and/or calibration issues and make estimations of time required to complete. •Sets up, programs and operates machines such as but not limited to CMM, height master, Taylor Hobson, vision system, comparator and other inspection equipment. •Use hand tools as necessary to aid in the process. •Must maintain tools of the trade as required by the job. •Must follow all safety requirements of job as outlined on the job safety card •Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor •Complete all paperwork associated with the job. Correctly maintain all forms and instruction sheets •Maintain a clean and orderly working environment •Inform your supervisor about problems that occur •May be required to handle hazardous waste by collecting and transferring the waste into proper containers at satellite storage areas or storage areas and assuring that the containers are properly inspected, labeled, and closed as required. Must follow correct instruction for handling hazardous waste and report any deviations to supervisor immediately. Must attend yearly instruction in hazardous waste handling and review of current procedures if job duties could affect non-compliance.
