About The Position

As the inventory specialist/cashier, you will provide for a quality-driven organization and structure of all donations received and selling quality items to the public. You will accept donations with a spirit of grace and provide receipts to donors, ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Position requires a background check to be completed and all background check results will be reviewed.
  • Minimum of two years customer service experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Able to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • Able to twist, bend, squat, reach, push and pull.
  • Able to lift 60lbs and move 100lbs.
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to outdoor temperature year-round and possible exposure to odors and dust.
  • Good speaking, hearing, and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity

Responsibilities

  • Receive with courtesy all donations at the back of the store. Issue tax receipts when requested.
  • Avoid receiving broken, damaged, or stained items.
  • Maintain a clean and organized back room, separating household donations, books, electronics, and other items from clothing and transporting items to the proper department.
  • Follow all Salvation Army policies regarding the sale of merchandise. Ensure inventory quality by adhering to merchandise standards and preventing damage to donated goods.
  • Have the necessary boxes for all donations and accessories (e.g., socks, belts, purses, toys, underwear, etc.).
  • Sort and clean donations as appropriate, as well as price, hang, and barb as instructed by the store manager, and put items worth sale onto the sales floor.
  • Keep an attitude of urgency in getting the sorting accomplished. This will keep piles from getting away from a manageable size.
  • Inform the store manager when volunteers and community service workers are not doing their work correctly.
  • Perform all functions related to running the cash register, including but not limited to ringing up customer sales, making change, and running the card reader.
  • Assist with carry-outs if purchased merchandise is heavy, large, or awkward to carry.
  • Accompany box truck driver as needed on pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Cooperate with the store manager and/or corps officer in other duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all organization practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership
