About the Role Sharon Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern – Plant Operations Support to join our team in Niles, OH. The position will begin as a part-time internship during the spring semester and transition into a full-time summer internship. This role provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing operations, maintenance systems, and inventory management within a heavy industrial environment. This intern will work closely with the Storeroom Inventory Manager and plant operations team to support parts management, identify process improvement opportunities, and help address operational challenges across the facility. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineering student interested in plant operations, reliability, maintenance engineering, or manufacturing leadership.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Strong interest in manufacturing, plant operations, or maintenance engineering
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working in a hands-on, industrial environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

• experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) is a plus

Responsibilities

• Support storeroom operations including inventory tracking, organization, and data accuracy
• Analyze parts usage and identify opportunities to improve inventory efficiency and cost control
• Assist in identifying critical spare parts and support plant reliability initiatives
• Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot equipment-related challenges
• Help streamline storeroom processes to improve accessibility and reduce downtime risk
• Participate in cross-functional projects to support continuous improvement efforts
• Gain exposure to plant systems, equipment, and day-to-day manufacturing operations
