Inventory / Cost Accountant

TruewerkDenver, CO
$95,000 - $115,000Hybrid

About The Position

Inventory isn’t just numbers on a spreadsheet — it’s product moving through real warehouses, handled by real partners, impacting real customers. We’re looking for an Inventory or Cost Accountant in Denver, Colorado to own that full picture. This role blends accounting, operations, and problem-solving. You’ll track what’s happening in our systems, dig into what doesn’t make sense, and help us continuously improve how inventory is managed, costed, and reported. You’ll work closely with Distribution, Product, and Finance to keep everything aligned as we scale. Our ideal candidate has operated in a high-SKU environment — ideally in Apparel, Footwear, Outdoor, or CPG — and understands the complexity that comes with it. You’ve managed inventory workflows in a large ERP (NetSuite, SAP, JDA, or similar) and know how systems, processes, and real-world operations need to line up. If you’re the kind of person who likes figuring out why something’s off — and then fixing it for good — this is your role. It’s work that supports the bigger picture, with impact well beyond the day-to-day. Built like it matters, because it does.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in inventory accounting or cost accounting, with direct responsibility for inventory valuation, reconciliations, and process improvement.
  • Strong working knowledge of costing and valuation methods (Average Cost, Standard Cost, FIFO) and their application in a multi-SKU environment.
  • Advanced ERP experience required (NetSuite, SAP, JDE, etc.), including oversight of inventory-related workflows, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets for complex reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in collaborating with third-party logistics providers.
  • Experience supporting financial or inventory-related audits.
  • Proven track record in driving or supporting inventory, control, or system process improvements.
  • Familiarity with Power BI or similar business intelligence (reporting and dashboarding) tools.

  • Identify control gaps and strengthen controls over inventory handling, costing, and reporting.
  • Act as a key accounting contact for financial and inventory-related audits; support audit requests and resolution of findings.
  • Ensure costs (freight, duties, tariffs, vendor costs, contract manufacturing costs) are recorded accurately and reflected in inventory and COGS.
  • Analyze cost variances, margin impacts, and cost changes, and communicate insights.
  • Validate landed cost allocations and cost rollups to ensure proper capitalization.
  • Support forecasting and budgeting by providing inventory and cost-related inputs.
  • Define, track, and report key metrics (e.g., inventory accuracy, shrink, aged inventory, cycle count results, fulfillment error rates).
  • Create dashboards and reporting for the accounting team and cross-functional partners regularly.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assess inventory workflows and collaborate with Operations and IT to improve data integrity and processes.
  • Act as the accounting liaison for NetSuite enhancements, testing, and system changes that impact inventory.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to support accuracy, efficiency, and scalability as the business grows.
