The Inventory Control Analyst functions as the operational oversight and shrink prevention arm of inventory management. The role ensures inventory accuracy across retail locations by monitoring shipment intake, cycle count compliance, shrink trends, system integrity, and financial adjustments impacting inventory valuation. The position serves as a central control point between Retail Operations, Loss Prevention, Supply Chain, Finance, and Field Leadership to identify discrepancies, mitigate shrink exposure, and strengthen process compliance. Shipment Visibility & Receiving Controls – Full Process Ownership The Inventory Control Analyst manages inbound shipment validation and intake monitoring, including: Reviewing Mercury Shipment Detail Reports to track carton numbers, quantities, device SKUs, and delivery status. Verifying shipment receipt accuracy and identifying missing or shorted cartons. Investigating LAR (Lost After Receipt) shrink caused by cartons marked delivered but not properly received in system. Monitoring In-Transit Reports to track aging shipments and prevent unaccounted inventory. Reconciling On-Hand vs. Ship-to-Store reports to ensure accurate system inventory positioning. Escalating discrepancies to Supply Chain, Operations, or Loss Prevention as required. Inventory Accuracy & Shrink Monitoring The role proactively identifies and mitigates inventory loss drivers: Analyzing OPUS Count Sheet History to identify recurring variances and adjustment patterns. Monitoring Daily Count Completion Alerts to enforce store-level cycle count compliance. Investigating Phone Shrink identified during monthly cycle counts, including: Receiving errors Unprocessed sales or returns Transfer discrepancies Potential theft or audit findings Reviewing Accessory Shrink trends driven by: Miscounts during cycle or EOM counts Fraud or theft Improper receiving or transfer entries Incorrect prior overage postings Identifying Discounting Shrink caused by unauthorized price overrides or MAP violations. Tracking and analyzing LAR Shrink trends to detect shipment intake breakdowns. Compliance Monitoring & Operational Reporting The Inventory Control Analyst ensures procedural adherence through structured reporting: Managing EOM Inventory Count Completion reporting (Location & District Manager level). Monitoring EOM Location Scan Rates to ensure barcode scanning compliance and accuracy. Identifying EOM BOPIS Non-Compliance by Location to ensure alignment between digital and physical inventory. Reviewing Active Installment Reports to ensure financed devices are accurately reflected in inventory and billing systems. Managing Weekly AROE and SSRS Data to track performance metrics and shrink exposure. Participating in Bi-Weekly Loss Prevention Shrink Meetings to review trends, root causes, and corrective actions. Financial Adjustments & Exception Management The role oversees inventory-impacting financial corrections and exception cases: Reviewing Bill Credits and Retail Credits issued for billing errors, pricing discrepancies, or returned merchandise. Investigating Invalid Refunds and Chargebacks processed outside required procedures and escalating fraud risk to Loss Prevention. Managing documentation and tracking through Portal Tickets and Email Responses to maintain audit trails. Validating financial adjustments align with physical inventory movement. Store Support & Escalation Handling The Inventory Control Analyst provides structured support to field operations: Responding to store-level inventory discrepancy escalations. Providing research and documentation to support corrective action plans. Monitoring store closures to ensure full inventory reconciliation and proper transfer to AT&T or neighboring locations. Supporting Loss Prevention investigations with shipment records, count history, and adjustment research. Reporting & Documentation Governance Maintaining structured tracking logs for shrink categories and root cause classification. Archiving shipment, count, and discrepancy documentation for audit readiness. Preparing executive-ready summaries outlining shrink trends and operational risk exposure. Supporting internal and external audits with reconciled data sets and investigation documentation.
