The Inventory Clerk is responsible for tracking and maintaining accurate counts of raw materials and hardware (e.g., lumber, hangers, etc.), processing purchase orders, and managing related documentation. This includes conducting physical counts, processing incoming and outgoing materials, maintaining inventory records in Microsoft Excel, and preparing delivery documentation. The role requires regular movement throughout the yard and warehouse, including areas with uneven terrain, and occasional customer/employee communication.

  • Perform routine physical counts of inventory items, including lumber, hangers, and other construction materials.
  • Count and track hanger inventory weekly, including entering picked quantities from signed address ship lists.
  • Accurately enter inventory receipts into tracking systems and software.
  • Monitor stock levels regularly and report discrepancies, shortages, overages, damaged materials, or unusual usage trends to the manager.
  • Order and receive hangers and other materials as needed.
  • Enter purchase orders (POs) into the system and maintain the PO ledger.
  • Track and update open purchase orders to ensure timely receipt and proper documentation.
  • Receive all materials and verify accuracy against purchase orders.
  • File POs and receipts in accordance with company procedures.
  • Perform sales order entry for credit approvals.
  • Check vendor accounts (e.g. Lumberman) for invoices and update records as necessary.
  • Answer incoming calls and route them appropriately, providing basic information or assistance when possible.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and reporting protocols while working in warehouse and yard environments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Prior experience with inventory control, materials tracking, and/or purchasing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (data entry, basic formulas, spreadsheet navigation).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Regular walking on outdoor surfaces, including uneven terrain.
  • Occasional lifting and movement of materials (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Visual ability to read material labels and count accurately.
