Invasive Cardiovascular Technologists are allied health professionals who perform diagnostic examinations at the request or direction of an Interventional Cardiologist during invasive cardiology, noninvasive cardiology, and/or peripheral vascular study procedures. Through subjective data collection and recording, the technologist obtains information from which a correct anatomical and physiological diagnosis may be established for each patient. The role involves active participation in all phases of the peri-procedural process, manipulation of procedural instrumentation under the direct supervision of the Interventional Cardiologist, and responsibility for supplies and equipment necessary during the invasive cardiology procedure. The technologist must anticipate the needs of the Interventional Cardiologist and maintain the sterile field. They should be able to function independently for basic procedures and with minimal supervision of a senior technologist during advanced and highly complex procedures, as well as function as a circulator under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN). Emergency on-call duties are also required.
