About The Position

Performs technical and supportive patient care tasks, within scope of practice, to assist the physician in performing invasive cardiovascular procedures according to the standards set forth by the American College of Cardiology and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions under the direction of the Cardiovascular Services Clinical Nurse Manager and the Cardiovascular Services Medical Director.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years of Cardiac Cath Lab or interventional radiology experience required.
  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular technology certification program, OR Minimum of Associates degree in Applied Science or in Radiology Technology required.
  • Professional certification from an accredited certifying body in radiology or cardiology including, but not limited to, RCIS, RTR or ARRT required.
  • State of New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy licensure required.
  • BCLS and ACLS required to be completed within six (6) months required.
  • Thorough knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics and cardiovascular equipment and supplies.
  • Working knowledge of formulas used to calculate gradients, shunts, and cardiac outputs

Responsibilities

  • Scrub and assist in diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures as well as diagnostic and interventional vascular procedures and other cardiovascular procedures, including, but not limited to cardiac device implantation and electrophysiology studies/ablations, transesophageal echocardiograms, and electrical cardioversions.
  • Assist in performing emergency procedures associated with catheterization procedures such as IABP insertion and temporary pacemaker insertion.
  • Operate Cath lab hemodynamic monitoring and recording system to assure complete and accurate analysis of wave forms, values, and other functions specific to the system.
  • Operate technical equipment in the Cardiac Cath Lab including, but not limited to, the Cath lab table and imaging systems.
  • Recognize apparent changes in patient’s condition during procedure or post procedure and immediately communicate findings to physician or nurse; seek assistance as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency in performance of procedures specific to role in the Cardiac Cath Lab and recovery area including pre, intra and post procedure requirements.
  • Assist in other areas of cardiovascular services, as needed. May be required to assume assignments in other areas of cardiovascular services to meet patient needs.
  • Work must be performed on-site.
  • Effectively manage emergent patient situations in a fast-changing environment.
  • Recognizes cardiac rhythms, life-threatening arrhythmias, and intra-cardiac electrocardiogram.
  • Work schedule may include 8-12 hours per day in addition to on-call status for call coverage when the department is closed.
