About The Position

UPMC is seeking an Invasive Cardiac Tech to support the Cardiovascular Lab at UPMC Hanover. This position is full-time and involves working 4 10-hour shifts between Monday through Friday, with 2 holidays a year required and on-call duties approximately 10 days per month. New graduates and current Radiology Technicians looking to grow in a new and exciting area are welcomed to apply. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered for a 2-year commitment to eligible hires.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology (RT-R) or Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist (RCIS) certification or certified/licensed as a Paramedic in the state of Pennsylvania with current credentialing maintained.
  • ARRT certified as a Radiologic Technologist or RCIS as a Cardiovascular Specialist or certified/licensed as a Paramedic in the state of Pennsylvania is required.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • ACLS certification is desired upon hire.
  • Successful completion of ACLS certification required within orientation period.
  • New graduates have 1 year to obtain their board certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in health care related field accepted but not required.
  • ACLS certification desired upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures.
  • Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data.
  • Documents patient history in electronic record as required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patient's fears and solicit their cooperation.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect.
  • Able to work as team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.
  • Maintains point of care testing standards, including daily quality control, for devices used for procedures.
  • Provides stand by call coverage, as scheduled, in accordance with system-wide stand by call procedure/policy.
  • Administers contrast under the direction of the procedure physician.
  • Demonstrates competency in functioning in the first assist position.
  • Fosters an environment that supports aseptic technique during procedures and patient safety with the incorporation of a time-out process.
  • Practices with attentiveness to radiation safety for the patient as well as others in the procedure room including appropriate use of lead shielding and monitoring devices.
  • Assures documentation of patient radiation exposure in electronic record.
  • Demonstrate proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Exhibits a clear understanding of correct patient preparation, equipment operations and patient monitoring systems.
  • Support other departments as directed or assigned.
  • Ensures all images within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the PACS, and are properly networked to appropriate electronic record for archival and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the procedures performed.
  • Maintains continuing education and competency requirements for position.
