About The Position

The Introductory Care Assistant position at Children's Mercy Kansas City is an 8-week training program designed for individuals interested in gaining clinical skills to become successful Care Assistants in inpatient medical/surgical units. This role involves providing basic patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff and transitioning to 12-hour night shifts after training. The position emphasizes a commitment to compassionate care for pediatric patients and their families.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent / On-the-Job Training
• Good communication skills
• Demonstrates critical thinking and good time management skills
• Strong desire to care for pediatric patients and families
• Must be available for 8, 10, or 12 hour day shifts M-F during the training
• Excellent attendance during the program is critical
• Basic Life Support certification Required Upon Hire
• Must be able to work 12 hour night shifts after training
• Employees who are on current corrective counseling are not eligible.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of supportive technical and clinical tasks.
• Manages time effectively and prioritizes work to be accomplished.
• Recognizes pertinent changes in patient condition and communicates them to the supervising licensed nurse or medical care provider.
• Records observations and patient care interventions accurately within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Works effectively with other departments such as Lab, Social Work, and Radiology.
