About The Position

Windham School District is currently seeking an Introduction to Welding instructor to join the Windham Career and Technology Education (CTE) team. The instructor will provide quality training in the technical and soft skills needed to gain entry level employment. Primary purpose: Instruction will include training in Basic Safety, identification and safe use of a variety of hand tools and power tools, base metal preparation, equipment set up, cutting and gouging metal, shielded arc welding and beads and fillet welds. Additional focus will be on classroom and lab instruction in various construction trades with the objective to identify areas of interest or to support a specific program offered in our district. NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) curriculum and modules will be used to guide instruction. Upon completing of course, students should receive NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) Level 1 Welding.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of full time wage earning experience within the past ten years in one or more approved occupations for which instruction is offered.
  • Have 3 years of Welding level experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Skill in organizing and maintaining accurate records.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associates degree, or technical training may be considered in determining full time work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction for various basic labor and/or technical skills through classroom instruction, demonstration and practical exercises using NCCER curriculum. (NCCER training will be provided by WSD)
  • Instruction in general safety and industry standards
  • Maintains records including testing, daily offender work, attendance and general record keeping.
  • Administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
  • Counsels students concerning their performance and progress
  • Will be responsible for developing and maintaining classroom management to include tool control, tool inventory, and chemical control.
  • Adhere to WSD and TDCJ policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of the job duties.
  • Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.
  • Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.
  • Execute duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Supervise adult incarcerated students in classroom settings.
  • May also supervise teacher aides.
