About The Position

Serve as an on-site instructional leader for teachers. Assist in coordinating interventions for students in all areas of literacy, reading and dyslexia. Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the educational program relevant to the needs of the students. Provides support to teachers through curriculum, training and offering interventions to students in need. Works collaboratively with staff to assess and go through the Response to Intervention (RTI) process to plan for student success. Coordinate and provide interventions, individual instructional plans to students in all the core areas in particular literacy, reading and dyslexia. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures and regulations. Essential Functions Provide dyslexia reading support to students identified with dyslexia, ensuring the minimum time requirements prescribed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines are followed and the appropriate levels offered in accordance with the minimum number of students per group. Ensure the dyslexia program guidelines are followed as per the most recent Dyslexia Handbook provided by the Texas Education Agency. Ensure the students are appropriately placed in groups and provide support to students and/or individual targeted interventions for the minimum time requirements prescribed by the state guidelines. Develop and deliver lessons that incorporate accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Assist in the development, implementation, and administration of curriculum and assessment tools for student interventions and dyslexia. Collaborate with other teachers and the administrative team to determine instructional goals and objectives. Develop and evaluate the instructional program. Periodically review the program and recommend modifications when appropriate. Promote the use of technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Assist in the collection, analysis, and evaluation of student performance data; ensure appropriate student placement in school programs. Provide support and counsel for teachers on matters pertaining to instruction, interventions, and assisting children in the dyslexia program. Collaborate with campus administrators to plan and coordinate student intervention schedules. Prepare and maintain complete and accurate records as required by administrative regulations, district policies, and state and federal agencies. Assist the administration in compiling any pertinent administrative reports. Participate in professional development activities as required by the district to remain current in instructional methods and the dyslexia program to provide advice and counsel for teachers on matters pertaining to instruction and the dyslexia program. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job. Other Responsibilities Participate in professional development activities as required by the district. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned. Virtual and Online Teaching Duties (additional as assigned) Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distance or virtual learning that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular school business hours to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents. Participate in meetings as required and/or coordinated by supervisors. Utilize the workday to plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate student work, lessons and activities. Communicate with students and parents for a minimum of one time per week via phone, email, website, educator communication app, or video/virtual conferencing. Respond to all correspondence from parents and students within the next business day of receipt. Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used : Personal or district issued computer, phone system, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals. Automated external defibrillator (AED) as assigned after receiving appropriate training. Posture : Prolonged standing, sitting, frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting Motion : Repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists, frequent walking Lifting : Regular lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment Environment : Work inside, outside, from home or location other than school building, and exposure to noise Mental Demands : Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours Travel : Ability to travel between worksites as needed. Occasional district-wide travel and statewide travel. Texas or New Mexico driver’s license; insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier. Subject to be required to take the district defensive driver’s education if traveling between sites on a regular basis. Drug/Alcohol Testing : Subject to the District’s drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Texas teacher certification (bilingual preferred) covering all the grade levels to be served
  • minimum of three (3) years experience as a classroom teacher with experience in teaching Reading required.
  • Possess a working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • ability to assess student progress and evaluate instructional programs
  • ability to coordinate tutoring and plan for appropriate interventions for students at various grade levels
  • ability to interpret policy, procedures and data.
  • Must possess strong organizational, communications, computer, and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
