This role focuses on all aspects of interventional radiology procedures, elective and emergent utilizing imaging modalities such as DSA, fluoroscopy, US and CT. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation. This position performs interventional radiologic procedures in according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. Trained and experienced in the care of patients undergoing Interventional Radiology Procedures such as Angiograms, Thrombectomy, Kyphoplasty, Venous Access, Biopsy and Drainage. Highly motivated, flexible, team player able to maintain calm and focused in situations of extreme emergency. Must be flexible and understand that needs/schedule changes throughout the day and must be able to adjust accordingly. Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Radiology or related field.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification (ARRT).
  • Radiologic Technologist state license eligible.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology is also required so the technologist can evaluate laboratory data, past medical history and pertinent symptoms to tailor the radiologic examination to each patient individually in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of a wide variety of Interventional Radiology procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with patients and all personnel involved in procedures and operation of department in order to effectively coordinate and expedite a successful examination.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time under various conditions while acquiring diagnostic information.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.
  • Ability to work independently to perform exams and will seek out assistance from others and supervisor as necessary.
  • Displays good judgment and works through a problem with creativity and remains focused and professional.
  • Responds to change and/or stats in work scheduling in a calm and appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrates cooperation with co-workers and management to ensure an atmosphere that is conductive to high quality patient's care.
  • Attention to detail is required for ensuring patient education, safety, comfort as well as discussing clinical situations with physicians.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge pertaining to image quality, radiation safety, radiologic procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Positions and prepares patients for interventional procedure based on procedure being performed and under direction of Interventional Radiologist
  • Prepares sterile procedure tray with supplies in accordance with procedure being performed and under direction of Interventional Radiologist.
  • Assists physician in proper positioning of guidewires, catheters and devices used during interventional procedures.
  • Maintains sterile field and neat/organized procedure table.
  • Circulate room during procedures, identify and open proper supplies, as requested by performing physician, using appropriate hand off technique.
  • Sends images to PACS, merges studies, approve and assign to appropriate physician.
  • Maintains records of exam performed including all supplies used, contrast media and fluoro time during procedures.
  • Monitors and is fully engaged in radiation safety practices including badges, safety equipment (lead apron surveys, glasses, shielding), follows radiation safety guidelines and protocols and attends required radiation safety training.
  • Instructs patients with pre and post procedure education as needed.
  • Assists with inventory, maintenance, and ordering of supplies
  • Possess skills pertinent to patient monitoring procedures such as as blood pressure, pulse oximetry, intravenous care and sterile technique.
  • Accurately enters all charges and reviews charge for reconciliation upon exam completion.
