About The Position

Join Midstate Radiology Associates (MRA) as a Full Time, 1st Shift, Interventional Radiology Technologist at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. Position Schedule: Mon, Tue, Thur & Fri, 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM + on-call rotation every 4th week/weekend (schedule is subject to change based on operational needs). The compensation range for this position is between $31.00 and $54.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate AMA approved radiology program.
  • Registered with American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
  • CT state license.
  • CPR certification may be required.
  • Maintenance of continuing education credits as required by licensure.
  • Individual exceptions may apply only under the discretion of the Medical and Administrative Director
  • Working knowledge applicable to radiological technology with specific references to anatomy, medical and surgical disease, and scientific principles as applied to radiological technology.

  • TJC standards of practice.
  • Operate and adjust radiological equipment.

  • Venipunctures certificate (where applicable).
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient records.
  • Schedule, organize and complete work in accordance with required workloads.
  • Read, interpret and follow internal quality standards and government regulations.
  • Understand and follow specifications and instructions.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Capable of maintaining basic life support (CPR).

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year’s experience as an Interventional Radiology technologist
  • Associates or Applied Science Degree in related field.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain competence in all procedure and equipment set-ups
  • Capable of using skill set to work in other environments (off the floor, Hybrid OR, CT, US, Fluoro)
  • Documentation within EMR
  • Ordering inventory as appropriate
  • General knowledge of procedure coding
  • Proficient at patient care: dressing changes, toileting,
  • Independent room/tray set-up
  • Adhere to infection prevention and radiation safety protocols
  • Familiar with hospital policies and protocols as they relate to the department
  • Proficient use of SECTRA/PACS
  • Provide training and implementation of any new equipment/upgrade
  • Collaborate with radiology staff members, outpatient referring and interdisciplinary hospital staff.
  • Maintain levels of inventory and orders appropriately
  • Aware of budget and practices with cost-effective mentality
  • Ongoing evaluation of necessity of supplies and equipment
  • Facilitation of daily workflow and frequent review processes for effectiveness
  • Assists with student as directed
  • Maintains clinical proficiency and annual health stream. Participates in the department quality, safety and compliance initiatives.
  • Demonstrates competencies, including knowledge and behaviors to meet age specific patient needs (e.g. Pediatric, Adolescents, and Geriatrics) and cultural diversity. Works effectively as team member within the department and other units to provide quality service through pertinent knowledge, communication, cooperation and collaboration. Work to supervise Radiology students and new hires as needed.
  • Operates IR equipment to produce accurate images while maintaining sterile technique. Assembles sterile trays and assumes scrub duties as necessary. Accurately documents procedure performed. Verify correct orders and relevant history in the patient’s chart.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures by selecting the correct exposure factors utilizing the assessment of patient age, pathology and diagnosis to produce technically accurate digital images to assist the radiologist in diagnosing. Work with students.
  • Accurately inputs procedural information into electronic medical record, RIS and PACS to capture necessary information regarding exams, supply charges, resource allocations, radiation exposure as well as all relevant clinical information.
  • Obtains all relevant patient information, including but not limited to, current lab values, medication usage, ensuring reason for exam is concordant with exam request in order to perform the appropriate exam, on the correct patient, to procure an accurate diagnosis.
  • Explain procedures to patients and addresses their concerns. Utilizes ALARA principals and appropriate infection control techniques to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Appropriately maintains exam rooms, supplies and equipment according to performance standards. Maintains area supplies and reports equipment malfunctions. Performs and documents quality assurance testing on equipment according to established protocols to maintain high performance of the system. Transports patients as necessary.
