About The Position

The Radiology Registered Nurse delivers patient‑centered care throughout the imaging and interventional procedure process, including pre‑procedure assessment, monitoring during MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and special procedures, and post‑procedure evaluation and education. The nurse collaborates closely with Radiologists to screen patients for procedure candidacy, coordinates imaging and follow‑up appointments, and ensures safe, efficient workflow across Radiology services. This role maintains a therapeutic environment, leads team members, and participates in professional practice activities to support high‑quality patient outcomes.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and complete the degree within four years of hire or reclassification (see policy A141).
Minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse required.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina or another compact state.
Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required.

Responsibilities

Provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
Directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.
Provide patient/family centered care using the nursing process and focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. This includes providing for the assessment, development of nursing diagnoses, outcome identification, planning, implementation of interventions, coordination of care, health teaching and promotion and evaluation of goals and interventions consistent with the policies of MUSC.
Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model. Communicates with other departments, especially with SDS, Admissions, Anesthesia, Operating Room, X-ray and the like, to assure positive and supportive relationships to enhance quality of care.
Monitors patient pre and post procedure.
Provides patient education at time of discharge.
Follows up with patient post procedure and schedules appointment and reimaging to assess therapeutic response.
Screens patients with Radiologist for procedure candidacy and schedules imaging for pre procedure assessment.
Monitors during special procedures, MRI, and CT. Also, assists Ultrasound and Breast Center as necessary with the use of monitors and equipment.
