About The Position

Plan, teach and evaluate student learning in a special education setting. Differentiate curriculum for all students. Help students learn to manage emotions and behavior within the classroom. Work closely with all members of the school team to deliver intervention, lessons and activities. Maintain case load of up to 12 students. Provide services as indicated in students’ Individual Educational Plan. Maintain direct contact with students, parents/guardians, mental health professionals and home school district representatives. Responsible for detailed student records in compliance with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce standards. The Intervention Specialist is supervised by the School Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education or related field required.
  • Intervention Specialist License required. Valid teaching certificate from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce required.
  • Experience working with youth that need social, emotional, developmental and/or academic support.
  • A valid driver's license with approved driving record (less than 6 points), personal transportation and insurance, if required to drive on behalf of the agency.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach up to 6 classes daily throughout the school year.
  • Provide intervention, mentorship and guidance to all students.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, mental health professionals, and home school districts with consistent updates regarding students’ progress or issues that arise.
  • Extend and support therapeutic ideals and goals of the Applewood Educational Services
  • Actively review students’ progress and plans through all available documentation, i.e. ETR, IEP, Therapist reports, background reports, and Juvenile Court reports.
  • Cooperate with the educational team regarding planning, decisions and execution of IEP's made in conjunction with the student's home district representative.
  • Complete Progress Reports (for caseload) and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going training.
  • All required trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
  • Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.
  • Substitute for absent staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
