About The Position

The 6–8 Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing high-quality, individualized instruction to students with disabilities. This role involves managing a caseload of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education teachers in inclusive settings, and ensuring students make progress toward both state standards and personal developmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Modify and adapt the 6-8 general education curriculum to ensure accessibility while maintaining alignment with Ohio’s Learning Standards.
  • Provide direct instruction in small groups or 1:1 settings, focusing on academic, social, and executive functioning skills.
  • Utilize Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) and Assistive Technology to support diverse learning styles.
  • Serve as the Case Manager for assigned students, overseeing the drafting, implementation, and annual review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Conduct functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) as needed.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation of student progress toward IEP goals, using data to drive instructional adjustments.
  • Partner with general education teachers in a "Push-in" or "Co-teaching" model to support students in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and transition planning.
  • Support the social-emotional development of students during the transition from childhood to adolescence.
  • Integrate transition planning into the IEP for students aged 14 and older (per Ohio law), focusing on post-secondary goals and independent living.
