About The Position

U.S. Facilities, Inc. is seeking a person in joining our team who can serve as a Interstate Maintenance Operator who will support VDOT via equipment operations, job safety, emergency operations, preventative maintenance, and manual labor. This is to be accomplished on a routine basis as outlined in the following responsibilities: Edge and cut grass with zero-turn lawn mowers and weed eaters. Use chain saws for various tasks. Pick up trash along the interstate, roadways, or other designated areas. Clean bridges and overpasses of graffiti, trash, and other debris. Interact with the homeless to include removal of abandoned living areas. Complete pre-trip inspections prior to operating any vehicle. Participate as a working member of the crew to complete projects and accomplish objectives. Perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and power tools daily. Set up work zones, cut brush, clean ditches and pipes, repair roadways, and plow snow when necessary. Conduct emergency roadway operations as an essential employee during snow/severe weather and other emergency events. Operate light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment safely to perform maintenance and construction related work tasks. Identify workplace safety hazards and make suggestions for improvement. Wear proper personal protection equipment. Maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures (OSHA and VOSHA, etc.). Utilize equipment properly and safely. Ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work environment. Follow VDOT safety regulations and practices. Clear roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and clean up after accidents. Provide traffic control. Any other duties assigned by a supervisor and/or USF Senior Project Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and programs
  • Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, and methods.
  • Demonstrates experience in equipment operations comparable to that used in highway maintenance/construction activities.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including frequently lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Skilled in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and to respond to accidents, and emergency/disaster response, etc. during/after normal work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • DMV records check is required.
  • Criminal History Records Check and Fingerprint check is required.
