About the position

The Interpreter position at CAI involves providing Spanish translation and interpretation services for various divisions and agencies. This full-time contract role requires a motivated individual with at least 3 years of experience in translation, who can ensure accurate translations while maintaining the original tone and context. The role also includes attending meetings and advocating for Limited English Proficiency clients, all while maintaining confidentiality and effective communication with staff and requestors.

Responsibilities

• Perform Spanish translation and interpretation services for IDOH.
• Translate and interpret for multiple divisions/agencies, both internal and external.
• Ensure translations are accurate and maintain the tone, context, and meaning of the original material.
• Proofread translations and complete translation requests for various documents.
• Use special dictionaries, glossaries, and websites for reference; research terminology as necessary.
• Attend meetings, conferences, or events to provide interpretation services.
• Advocate for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) clients when necessary.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of translations and interpretations.
• Communicate effectively with requestors and staff to ensure all needs are met.
• Participate in opportunities to support translation and interpretation efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 3+ years of experience translating
• Completion of 40-hour Medical Interpreting Training such as Bridging the Gap
• Native Spanish speaker level
• Native Spanish grammar level; must be able to navigate almost any document in both languages, English and Spanish
• Fluent in English and Spanish
• Able to communicate professionally verbally and in writing
• Industry-specific knowledge
• Demonstrate interpreting/translating abilities
• Culturally competent
• Strong communication skills
• High level of discretion and confidentiality
• Must be able to work with limited supervision and handle multiple tasks and projects
• Must be motivated to independently initiate and perform job duties
• Must complete a proficiency test to determine language proficiency
• Skills in using Microsoft Office
