About The Position

The Interpreter position involves providing interpretation services between Spanish and English for patients, their families, and caregivers in a healthcare setting. The role requires accurate translation of medical terms and effective communication to ensure understanding during patient interactions. The interpreter will work under the supervision of the Senior Administrative Director of Patient Care Services and is expected to demonstrate professionalism and sensitivity to patients' needs.

Requirements

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required.
• Must pass the Bilingual Fluency Assessment for Clinicians with a rating of 'competent' overall and 85% or greater in Spanish Fluency prior to hire or transfer.
• Community interpretation experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation services translating Spanish to English and English to Spanish.
• Perform community-based interpreting for patients with Spanish as their primary spoken language.
• Utilize liaison interpretation process, translating every few sentences while the speaker pauses.
• Ensure accurate patient information is obtained through interpretation.
• Accurately interpret medical terms as required.
• Communicate succinctly and accurately, reflecting the speaker's style and intonations.
• Interpret obscenities and colloquial language without simplifying the language used.
• Greet patients, families, and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to patients' emotional states during hospital visits.
• Properly identify patients and avoid personal conversations when the speaker is present.
