InterCare is searching for a full-time Interpreter - Spanish to English, to join our team at our Benton Harbor Women's Health Center location! Work Schedule: Typically Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with Friday and Evening Hours as necessary. - NO WEEKENDS!! A Spanish Interpreter is responsible for providing accurate interpretation between patient, family members when applicable, and InterCare staff. Interpretation is defined as relaying messages verbally from one language to another and does not include written translation. Additionally, the Spanish Interpreter will serve as a cultural mediator and patient advocate if necessary.

Requirements

  • Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent with basic level of reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English at a level of proficiency expected by InterCare through language assessment.
  • Knowledge of vocabulary in English and Spanish applicable to the area of interpretation.
  • Understands and applies the standards of practice and ethics related to the field of interpretation as developed by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).
  • Work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, organizational staff and community agencies.
  • Duties require the ability to effectively perform in response to workflow, staff and patient needs.
  • Ability to identify and apply effective solutions to situations encountered in functional role.
  • Able to prioritize and organize responsibilities multitask and maintain focus under pressure.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capable of using office equipment.
  • Ability to use clerical and numerical skills.
  • Possesses a professional and appropriate level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Respectfully communicates patient needs and provides feedback to staff related to their exchanges with Hispanic/Latino patients.
  • Communication reflects the appropriate level of concern and respect for the situation.
  • Uses professional and cultural appropriate ways of showing respect.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, frequently sit, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, reach with arms & hands, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and manipulate (using keyboard, office equipment).
  • Visual acuity to use keyboard, operate office equipment, and read printed material and regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Must be able to hear and communicate with clients and staff on the telephone and those who are served in person.
  • Must have vision which is adequate to read clinical documentation, and watch trainings on a computer screen.

Responsibilities

  • Provides accurate English/Spanish interpretation for verbal exchanges.
  • Serves a cultural mediator and patient advocate as it relates to communication barriers.
  • Provides assistance to the front office support staff in clerical tasks as needed.
