About The Position

The Interpreter position at Salinas Valley Health involves providing bilingual interpretation services between Spanish and English for patients, their families, and caregivers. The interpreter will work under the supervision of the Senior Administrative Director of Patient Care Services and will utilize various interpreting methods, including community-based interpreting and liaison interpretation processes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English with a competent rating in Spanish Fluency assessment.
• Community interpretation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation services translating Spanish to English and vice versa.
• Perform community-based interpreting for patients with Spanish as their primary language.
• Utilize video and phone resources for interpreting services as needed.
• Ensure accurate patient information is obtained through interpretation.
• Interpret medical terms accurately as required.
• Communicate succinctly and accurately, reflecting the speaker's style and intonations.
• Interpret obscenities and colloquial language without simplifying the language used.
• Greet patients and their families in a courteous and professional manner.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to patients' emotional states during hospital visits.
• Properly identify patients and avoid personal conversations while interpreting.
