Requirements

• Residency near the Sioux Falls, SD area is required.
• Requires updated vaccination and medical examinations to be eligible for medical interpretation assignments.
• Must have bi-lingual skills.
• Fluent in written and verbal English and the target language
• Minimum: High School diploma or GED, or equivalent education/experience
• Active listening skills to interpret intent and context effectively
• Professional demeanor, respectful of cultural differences and special needs
• Specific experience prioritized in: Ukrainian, Russian, Swahili, Kunama; other languages encouraged
• Must complete all necessary background checks, including criminal history screenings, criminal convictions of behavior harmful towards children, spousal abuse, distributing drugs or sex crimes
• Up-to-date on vaccinations and medical exams (for medical interpretation assignments)
• At least 18 years old
• Must have valid driver’s license and auto insurance, or ability to obtain approved driver status

Responsibilities

• Provide professional in-person interpretation (verbal and/or written) across the Sioux Falls area
• Conduct pre-session communications with clients and non-English speakers
• Receive and review session briefings prior to interpreting
• Deliver real-time, face-to-face interpretation, accurately translating spoken statements both ways
