About The Position

The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces. The Kentucky Commission on Deaf and Hard of Hearing acts as an advocate for deaf and hard of hearing persons on legislative issues, as well as a consultant to the governor, the General Assembly, and various state and local governmental agencies concerning policies and programs that pertain to people with hearing loss. The agency also provides information, referral and advocacy services, and interpreter referral services for state agencies. Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is seeking qualified applicants for the position of an Interpreter Referral Coordinator. This position will assist in administration and support services to persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. They will coordinate the day-to-day scheduling of interpreters for Kentucky state government agencies. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends. The Education and Labor Cabinet (ELC) participates in E-Verify. Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have a total of one year in any combination of the following: interpreting experience; coordination of interpreter referral or other deaf or hard of hearing therapy services; administrative work performed in the area of deaf or hard of hearing; experience as a teacher or rehabilitation counselor for the deaf or hard of hearing; or experience as an American Sign Language Instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the coordination of interpreter and captioning services through the Access Center. Works with the information, referral and advocacy department regarding inquiries and advocacy related to interpreter services.
  • Confirms interpreter availability, schedules services and maintains accurate service logs. Records service requests, assignments and provider usage. Updates internal database of services provided.
  • Monitors local, state and federal laws and regulations surrounding the interpreting profession. Ensures services comply with he Americans with Disabilities (ADA), state licensure laws, agency policies and professional ethical standards.
  • Answers incoming phone and videophone calls, responds to inquiries and directs calls appropriately. Enters consumer information and requests into database. Helps train staff on how to handle phone calls and follow our phone policy and procedures.
  • Assist with daily office operations. Coordinates facility related issues and supports building management. Initiates service or supply orders as needed. Provides administrative support to internal staff and leadership. Assist with special projects as needed.
