This is a temporary paid internship position of 8 weeks of work, with the possibility of a full-time offer at the end of the internship. What you can expect as an HMM Intern: Gain comprehensive industry insight through a structured 8-week program where you will be embedded within our Finance and Accounting department. This internship offers a unique opportunity to understand the "financial engine" of the ocean carrier industry.

Requirements

  • Current (or recently graduated) university student, ideally majoring in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related business field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and a strong interest in learning new accounting ERP systems like SAP.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work in a team environment
  • Possesses a positive attitude with an interest in learning and growing

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the full lifecycle of Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R), including auditing invoices, processing employee reimbursements, and validating data accuracy.
  • Utilize specialized systems (SAP and Compass) to record banking transactions, create receipts, and interface financial documents.
  • Assist with data entry, maintain financial databases, and ensure all records and vendor files are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Communicate with vendors and employees to follow up on payment statuses and resolve discrepancies or documentation requests.
  • Attend departmental meetings, take notes, and contribute ideas during brainstorming or process-improvement sessions.
  • Monitor and track financial order statuses, assist with bank reconciliations, and gather information to support decision-making.
  • Keep track of individual learning progress utilizing program resources and develop a capstone presentation at the conclusion of the program to demonstrate your learning experience.
