About The Position
This intern role will assist with various processes including HVAC design, HVAC performance verification, field inspections for new home quality (QI), and energy performance testing. It offers direct exposure to HVAC systems, energy-efficient building practices, and site construction management. The internship provides hands-on experience in residential HVAC modeling, energy performance testing, and construction quality inspections, supporting both field and office operations. Through this role, the intern will develop technical documentation skills, build familiarity with energy-efficient building practices, and strengthen communication and collaboration skills while working alongside seasoned professionals.
Requirements
- Enrolled in a degree program with a focus on drafting/engineering/design or similar.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with or coursework in AutoCAD or similar.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work in both field and office environments.
- Valid driver’s license for site visits.
Responsibilities
- Perform site visits to new residential construction projects for new single-family and multi-family homes.
- Assist with testing and balancing (T&B) activities, duct leakage testing (duct blaster), and house infiltration testing (blower door) to ensure code compliance.
- Assist senior engineers in performing residential HVAC load calculations (Manual J) and equipment selection (Manual S).
- Prepare detailed field reports, documentation of findings, and as-built drawings using modeling software.
- Work with office and field personnel to learn various aspects of our business.
