Hennepin County's Service Center department is looking for a Strategy and Operations intern to support our department. In this role, you will work with the Service Center's Strategy and Operations coordinator and the Learning and Development unit to help employees make decisions, improve their work processes, leverage new technologies, and create strategic plans for their future work. You will learn how to plan and facilitate meetings, workshops, and trainings that empower staff to collaborate and improve the fundamentals of our work. We value customer service and are looking for candidates who are well organized and eager to learn new skills. The intern hired will receive skill development training and networking opportunities within Hennepin County.

  • Help plan and facilitate staff meetings, workshops, and trainings.
  • Assist with strategic planning sessions.
  • Help develop leadership development materials and trainings.
  • Partner with staff to plan and implement process improvement projects.
  • Promote change management principles within the department.
  • Help promote diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the department, and develop and implement evaluation tools for the Service Center department.
  • Participate in professional development activities and trainings.
  • Network with staff and expand your professional network.
  • Current enrollment for the academic year 2024-2025 in an associate or bachelor's degree program.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a hybrid environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Access Visio, and/or OneNote) or Google equivalent products (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Meet, Google Slides, Google Keep).
  • Interest in exploring the public sector as an area for future career growth.
  • Interest in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively with vendors, departments, and county staff in a professional manner, and be courteous and respectful to others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn software tools and develop new skills necessary to accomplish assignments.
  • Ability to recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services.
  • Skill development training and networking opportunities within Hennepin County.
  • Potential for a $500 referral bonus for current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate.
